According to Wikipedia, dye sublimation printing was limited to industrial or high-end commercial printing. Now there are many dye-sublimation printers on the market starting from a low as $100.

What is dye-sublimation? Dye - sublimation is a type of printing where the dye transitions between solid and gas states without going through a liquid stage. This process converts an image on a special type of paper to an image that has no "hard" residue that is sometime left with other printing methods such as screen printing or heat transfer printing. In order for the sublimation process to work, the dye can only attach to polyester thread. Therefore the garment must have at least some polyester for the dye sublimation to take hold. Here are some 65%/35% polyester/cotton products and 100% polyester products that will work with sublimation dye printing.
